Bakery on Main (Review and a Giveaway)

I love granola – I usually make my own but I had heard so many great things about Bakery on Main’s gluten-free granola that I had to give it a try.  They very lovely people over at Bakery on Main sent me a few samples about a month but I decided to hold off writing about them because they were in the process of releasing some new granola bars.  Sorry for the delay in posting this but I really wanted you to see all of their great selections.

If you haven’t heard of Bakery on Main yet let me share with you their back ground (found on their about page):

It all started in the small bakery of a natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Founder Michael Smulders listened to his Celiac customers complain about the taste of many of the gluten free options available to them. He thought that no one should have to suffer because of a food allergy or other special dietary need, and made it his mission to create products that were good for them but taste like they aren’t.

Late in 2003, after tasting a granola recipe one of the bakers was working on, Smulders said, “these gluten free people need granola!” He walked through the store and gathered ingredients and baked the first batch that day. It took almost 2 years to find gluten free sources of all the ingredients and find a place where we could make the product without risk of cross-contamination.

Three years and two bakeries later, their gluten free granola is made in a 34,000 square foot manufacturing facility with state of the art quality controls and in-house gluten testing on every batch. Located just a few miles down the road from the original bakery, the plant maintains the small bakery quality by continuing to bake in small batches.

They offer seven different granolas – two of which have 9 grams of fiber per serving (Nutty Cranberry Maple Granola, Extreme Fruit and Nut Granola, Apple Raisin Walnut Granola, Cranberry Orange Cashew Granola, Rainforest Granola, Triple Berry Fiber Power Granola, and Cinnamon Raisin Fiber Power Granola), six different granola bars (Peanut Butter & Jelly Soft & Chewy Granola Bar, Apple Cinnamon Soft & Chewy Granola Bar, Chocolate Almond Soft & Chewy Granola Bar, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Granola Bar, Cranberry Maple Nut Granola Bar, and Extreme Trail Mix Granola Bar) and a gift box!

I love granola with yogurt but I also enjoy it right out of the bag for an afternoon snack.  I used to bring small snack size bags of granola to the office to munch on in the afternoons.  My favorite granola and granola bars (in no particular order) are:  Chocolate Almond Soft & Chewy Bar, Triple Berry Fiber Power Granola, Cranberry Orange Cashew Granola and the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Granola Bar.  These bars are also perfect for traveling-just throw one or two in your bag or purse and if you are stuck in a situation where you can’t find any gluten-free food these will help hold you over.  I also have brought their granola and bars in my camera bag when doing on location shoots!
